Since 1982, Hickory Hill Farm has been family owned and operated. M.L. Jones purchased 43 acres off of Hickory Rd. Located in Chesterfield, VA. He was no stranger to farm work himself having been raised on a 1,000 acre dairy farm located in Mckenny, VA. He spent his youth learning from his father who was a farmer just like his father before him. He spent the majority of his working career as a boat builder and later on opened his own fiber glass boat repair business. Having always been a farmer at heart in 1982 he purchased the 43 acres now known as Hickory Hill Farm.
Starting with cattle he grew a herd to a count of 32 head through breeding with a bull he had aquired. Needless to say he ran a very successful small beef cattle operation. Being that it never was a fulltime job for him and instead just something he did for sport, it was more than enough for him. During the early 2000's he decided that it was time for a change. ML Jones & Sandra Jones decided to make the move to horses, they both ran a successful boarding operation for 15 years.
Whether it was clearing land to create open pastures or using a bull dozer to dig a 3 acre pond, he did it all. Running miles of fencing and creating this place exactly how he saw fit. The kind of man who never looked at a challenge and said it couldn't be done, and a firm believer in "If you want it done right, you've got to do it yourself."
